Lethal Means Counseling (LMC)

This half-day training is designed to enhance mental health clinicians' knowledge and confidence in conducting lethal means counseling (LMC), which entails the assessment of a patient's access to a potentially lethal suicide attempt method and working with them (and their support system) to limit or reduce their access to these methods. Although LMC has long been considered an important component of clinical work with suicidal patients, clear guidance and recommendations for discussing environmental safety has only recently emerged. This workshop provides an overview of LMC and provides practical suggestions and tips for navigating these conversations with high-risk patients.
